MAYOR Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy is set to deliver the State of the City Address on June 16, as the local government prepares for the city’s 75th Charter Day celebrations.
“It’s not just a Soca (State of the city address); it’s a term report that will be delivered by the mayor on June 16,” said City Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff Sheila Lumbatan yesterday, May 27.
Lumbatan said Mayor Uy will deliver his Soca at the Limketkai Atrium to report on the accomplishments of his administration as he concludes his first term in office in June 2025.
She also mentioned that, as part of the month-long Charter Day celebration organized by the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, the City Museum of Cagayan de Oro, and the Heritage Studies Center, the festivities will highlight the city’s achievements and future development plans.
The celebrations will officially begin on May 28 with National Flag Day and the city’s first formal flag retirement ceremony, aimed at educating residents on the proper disposal of worn-out flags, in accordance with Section 19 of Republic Act No. 8491, known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
“We will start in the morning of May 28 with a National Flag Day celebration, which will also be the first activity focused on the proper retirement of flags,” said Lester Dagasuan from the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.
Residents are encouraged to bring worn-out flags to designated drop-off points, including the Boy Scouts of the Philippines office near the old Hall of Justice, the City Museum, City Hall, and the Cagayan de Oro Police Office.
The official launch of the Charter Day festivities will be held at 5:00 pm on today, May 28 in front of the Executive Building, with participation from various city offices and agencies.
Main events on June 15 will begin early with the Freedom Day and CDO@75 Marathon and Fun Run at 4:00 am, followed by a Charter Day and Flag Raising Ceremony at 7:00 am.
In the afternoon, residents can enjoy a Lechon Roasting Festival, and in the evening, there will be a concert by local bands at 6:00 pm, a pyrotechnics display at 9:00 pm, and other cultural activities.
Throughout June, the city will host numerous cultural programs, exhibits, sports competitions, and concerts, leading up to the Higalaay Festival in August.
