CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has urged the city’s barangay officials to support the city hall administration’s campaign to eliminate the proliferation of illegal drugs and maintain peace and order.
The mayor even expressed his trust in barangay Tanods as members of the barangay police force following 456 of them from various barangays in Cagayan de Oro successfully attended the five-part Oro Barangay Tanod Basic program.
This program was initiated by the city government under Uy through the City Community Affairs Development Department, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office headed by PCol Aaron M. Mandia, and the Department of Interior and Local Government - Cagayan de Oro led by DILG-City Director Jane J. Docallos with the strong support of barangay officials.
The mayor explained that barangay tanods play an important role in promoting community security and that the government will support them in their efforts to improve their skills.
Uy appealed to the program speaking to the barangay tanods should help the Philippine National Police in maintaining public order in their communities.
During the program, the barangay tanods were allowed to learn about their roles and responsibilities as members of the barangay police force.
Resource speakers explained the laws and regulations that allow barangay tanods to find solutions to problems in their communities.
Mayor Uy delivered a message to all the barangay tanods, encouraging them to voice out their thoughts and ideas about issues and concerns in their community.
He also expressed his appreciation for their readiness to work together for peace and order in Cagayan de Oro.
The program highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination in developing community security.
Barangay tanods were allowed to work with barangay officials, police officers, and other government agencies to improve the quality of security in their area.
Uy, in partnership with the DILG and the police, successfully launched and conducted its Barangay Tanod Basic seminar for the benefit of Barangay Tanods of the city.
Keeping the entire barangay clean and safe is just one of their tasks. Barangay Tanods are essentially the peacekeeping arm of the Barangay.
For those subdivisions, residential areas, and other communities that cannot afford several uniformed security guards, these Tanods serve as the main security force in the area.
In some other parts of the country, like the Klinika-Kaalaman program is a testament to our commitment to the safety and well-being of our host communities.
By providing our barangay tanods with this training, we empower them to fulfill their roles as the guardians of peace and order at the barangay level.
Earlier, the DILG here like mayor Uy is urging barangay executives to support the Marcos administration’s campaign to maintain peace and order and eliminate the illegal drug trade in communities.
Barangay officials should help local police in protecting the public and maintaining security as force multipliers, according to Uy.
“As the front liners in government service, our barangay officials are in a very strategic position to help our police force in securing our villages,” as Uy.
He also said that the barangay tanods or Bantay Bayan serve as force multipliers of uniformed personnel in ensuring peace and order and combating illegal drugs.
The mayor also appealed for the continued support of the tanods in the city's campaign against illegal drugs, which is one of the causes of the people's difficulties.
The Mayor assured that they will continue to support barangay tanods in their efforts to promote peace, order, and security in Cagayan de Oro.
As a "force multiplier" in promoting peace and order in the barangay, Mayor Klarex praised the sacrifices and sincerity shown by the barangay tanods in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities to ensure the maintenance of peace and security in their respective areas.
He expressed during the program his appreciation for their preparedness and cooperation in working with their communities.
He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all barangay tanods for their assistance to the police and the government in maintaining peace and order in every community.
