CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy demonstrated his dedication to public service even during his recently held 70th birthday celebration this week.
During his birthday celebration, Uy's first stop was at JR Borja General Hospital, where he provided complimentary meals to the patients.
Mayor Uy firmly believes in a government that is close to the people and expressed happiness in bringing government services closer to citizens.
“Even though it's my 70th birthday today, I am still committed to serving the people,” said Uy, adding that it brings him great joy to bring essential government services closer to the people.
As part of his birthday celebration, Uy personally gave 15 wheelchairs and crutches to people who have difficulty moving due to health problems.
This act was made possible by the generosity of the mayor's family and was specifically aimed at helping people with disabilities.
"This is my gift to them, which my family and I have donated specifically for the benefit of the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) sector," said Uy.

The mayor also expressed gratitude to the people who celebrated his birthday and appreciated their support.
“Daku ang akong pasalamat sa mga tawo nga miduyog kanako sa pagsaulog sa akong adlawng natawhan,” said Uy in the Visayan dialect.
He also emphasized that serving the community is not just his duty but a way to show his love for all its members.
Throughout his time as mayor, Uy has consistently worked to create positive change and improve the lives of citizens.
Despite his age, he promised to keep working hard to address the needs and concerns of the community and build a city where everyone has equal opportunities and a better future.
“The mayor's 70th birthday celebration showed his unwavering commitment to public service,” said Sheila Lumbatan, the city mayor's office chief of staff.
Lumbatan said it demonstrated his genuine desire to make real improvements and uplift the lives of those he serves.
“The community was inspired and felt hopeful and united,” according to Lumbatan, adding that the people praised Mayor Uy for his selflessness and compassion.
They admired his ability to lead by example and make a positive impact through acts of kindness.
She said the birthday celebration became a catalyst for promoting empathy and encouraging others to contribute to the community's well-being.
The city is poised to overcome challenges and embrace a future where compassion and progress go hand in hand under the mayor's leadership.
With the support and gratitude of the people, the mayor's commitment to service will undoubtedly shape a better future for all.
"I will continue to work tirelessly to address the needs and concerns of our community," Uy reiterated, adding, "Together, let us build a city where everyone has equal opportunities and a brighter future."
“Once again, thank you, for standing by me as we commemorate my 70th birthday. Rest assured, my dedication to serving you remains unwavering,” Mayor Uy said.
