BUSINESSES classified as essential and don’t draw crowds, including those in malls, will be allowed to operate while leisure, entertainment, and fitness outlets will remain closed under the general community quarantine imposed in Cagayan de Oro and the rest of Misamis Oriental province by the national government.

Lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy, chief of the economic cluster of City Hall’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said this during Monday morning’s press briefing at city hall.

He reiterated that barangay exit passes, wearing of face masks, physical distancing, the 9 pm to 5 am curfew and other health measures remain in effect in Cagayan de Oro in keeping with the national government’s mandate on all Filipinos to stay at home and go outside only for essential activities like grocery shopping, payments, and cash claim remittances.

“Despite the gradual opening of some businesses in Cagayan de Oro, the requirements are still in effect. Paglihok sa katawhan limitado pa gihapon so dili puede laag. The strict quarantine will still be observed in all households to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” said Uy who discussed at length the businesses that will resume operation as outlined under Executive Order 112-2020 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Uy said businesses that fall under Category 1 or essential services like agriculture, supermarkets, groceries, hospitals, pharmacies, and medical services are allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity.

“Gitugotan man na before in the city and their operations were unhampered. Restaurants, eateries, and coffee shops are allowed to operate but only for delivery and takeout, not for dine-in. Businesses that ensure the supply chain and medical services fall under this category,” Uy said.

Businesses under Category II like repair and maintenance shops, e-commerce, housing and maintenance like cleaners will be allowed to operate at 50 to 100 percent capacity while businesses under Category III-like banks, money remittance centers, business process outsourcing, legal and accounting services are allowed work at home or on-site arrangements.
