AUTHORITIES are set to file parricide and child abuse charges against a mother from Agusan, Cagayan de Oro, who allegedly choked her four-year-old daughter to death on Saturday, March 15.

Police Major Amanollah Bantuas Jr. of Puerto Police Station 6 confirmed in an interview with Magnum Radio today, March 17, that the case would be filed that day.

According to Bantuas, postpartum depression may have played a role in the incident. The mother, whose identity has been withheld, allegedly choked the child while bathing her in the comfort room. Initially, she denied the crime but later admitted to it.

“After a while, gi angkon ra gyud nya nga gitook nya ang bata,” said Bantuas.

Authorities noted that while they cannot confirm if the mother was dealing with personal problems, she was reportedly unable to contact her husband, who is currently working in Cebu City.

“Dili na nya makontak iyang bana sa Cebu kay didto nag trabaho. So, kato sya naa pud anak na baby pa, one year old,” said Bantuas.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the suspect, identified only as ‘Marie,’ claimed she was overwhelmed and lost control at the time of the incident.

“Akong gi ano yong leeg nya kasi di ko na makontak yong ama nya,” she said.

Police continue to investigate the case.
