THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that it has suspended all non-essential maintenance activities from May 5 to May 16, 2025, as part of its contingency plans for the upcoming national and local elections on May 12.
The suspension affects construction and non-critical maintenance near substations and transmission lines. Maintenance inside substations and within 300 meters of energized power lines is also halted during this period.
As of April 30, all transmission lines were cleared of vegetation and obstructions, except for one in South Luzon, where negotiations with a landowner for vegetation trimming are ongoing.
These measures follow directives outlined in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolutions, including Resolution No. 10999 issued on May 24, 2024, which sets the election-related activity schedule, and Resolution No. 11055 dated September 13, 2024, which defines the roles of various agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
Local absentee voting commenced on April 28, 2025, with the canvassing and proclamation of winners scheduled from May 13 to May 19, 2025.
NGCP emphasized the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted power supply during this critical period and has coordinated with relevant agencies to prevent power interruptions.
“NGCP is strictly following its contingency measures and coordinating with concerned groups to ensure a power interruption-free election, especially during the crucial periods prescribed by the Comelec,” said NGCP.
According to the power outlook, there is sufficient electricity supply during the election weeks.
Power plant maintenance activities have also been adjusted to ensure their availability.
To support the election period, NGCP will activate its 24/7 Operations Command Center from May 11 until 8:00 pm on May 14, 2025.
Critical units, including System Operations and Operations and Maintenance, will remain fully staffed and operational.
Personnel such as line crews, engineers, pilots, and maintenance teams will be strategically positioned at substations to respond to any line trippings or emergencies.
Support teams will also stay on duty throughout the period.
NGCP’s Power Task Force Elections, a dedicated team formed as early as February, continues to conduct preparatory activities to ensure the security and reliability of the country's transmission network during the election season.
