NEW People’s Army rebels yesterday attacked in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental where they set afire a plantation truck of a multinational company. Felicito Ranan, barangay chairman of San Juan in Balingasag town, told radio station Magnum that the “tanker” was burned in Sitio Solo in his barangay at around 9 am. Solo is a kilometer  from Barangay San Juan’s center, and is some 10 kilometers from the town proper. Police have yet to confirm Ranan’s report. The capitol however confirmed it through its spokesperson Nicole Managbanag. Ranan  told local radio that the truck was headed to Barangay Tipolohon in Claveria town to deliver fuel supply for the agricultural equipment in a Del Monte Philippines plantation when it was stopped by some 60 rebels in Sitio  Solo, San Juan, Balingasag. Ranan said the truck driver was made to step down, and then the truck was set afire. The rebels fled afterwards. (nitz arancon)
