CAGAYAN de Oro City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), led by Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy, organized a Barangay Drug Clearing Workshop in nine barangays on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
"The goal of the workshop was to assist the barangays in meeting the documentary requirements for their drug-clearing application," said City Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan.
The participating barangays were identified as Barangay 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, and Bayabas, considered potential targets for the upcoming Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Program (ROCBDC) Deliberation.
CADAC co-chairman, City Councilor Romeo Calizo, explained that the workshop aimed to address the specific needs of the barangays in implementing the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
He emphasized to the barangays the importance of unity in achieving the city's objective of attaining drug-cleared and drug-resistant communities.
Lumbatan said several officials and representatives attended the event, including DILG City Director Engr. Jane Docallos, Dr. Rhyselle Bernadette M. Descallar, the head of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Division-Oro Wellness Center, authorities from the PDEA, COCPO, as well as personnel from Police Station 1, 3, and 4.
The workshop provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the participating barangays and various stakeholders, said Lumbatan.
It allowed for an exchange of insights, experiences, and best practices in combating drug abuse and promoting community resilience.
During the workshop, Lumbatan said attendees discussed strategies and approaches that proved effective in previous drug clearing initiatives.
Participants also learned about the proper documentation and processes essential to demonstrate their commitment and progress in the fight against drugs.
Additionally, experts from CADAC and other participating agencies shared valuable information on the importance of community involvement, rehabilitation programs, and the establishment of strong support systems to ensure a successful drug-clearing operation.
"The workshop also served as an opportunity for the barangays to express their concerns and seek guidance from the experts present," said Lumbatan.
Direct engagement with experienced professionals allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced and potential solutions to be implemented, Lumbatan added.
She said, by actively engaging in this workshop, the barangays demonstrated their commitment to eradicating drug-related issues and creating drug-free communities.
The knowledge gained and the relationships formed during this event will play a crucial role in their ongoing efforts to enhance the drug-clearing process and promote a safer environment for their residents.
Lumbatan said the initiative taken by CADAC and Mayor Uy's administration signifies their dedication to addressing the drug menace and building a city free from the clutches of substance abuse.
"It is through collaborative efforts like the workshops that communities can strengthen their resilience against drug-related problems and work towards fostering a brighter and more prosperous future," lumbatan concluded.
