TWO beneficiaries of the government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP) were arrested Friday evening for violating the public intoxication ordinance of the city.

Arrested were Claver Lomongo, 39, and Archer Bacala, 40, both residents of Blk.4 Barangay Puntod, this city.

City police spokesman Maj. Evan Viñas said police caught them having a drinking spree of alcoholic beverages in public at Celrai, Barangay Puntod.

“The two are both beneficiaries of the DSWD’s Social Amelioration Program,” Viñas said. He, however, did not elaborate if the arrested persons have already received the SAP subsidy.

Viñas said they confiscated the beers the two were drinking.

“(Their) behavior is contrary to law, hence they are brought along with physical evidence to the police station,” said Viñas.

Viñas said they are both now under police custody and are facing charges before the city prosecutor’s office for violating the City Ordinance 5133-95 and Executive Order 053-2020.

Meanwhile, City Police Director Col. Henry Dampal recognized the efforts of Police Station 5 personnel under the supervision of Capt. Homer Ostan for implementing the existing laws and ordinances. (Ben Balce)
