CAGAYAN de Oro City, led by Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy, has received accolades in the recently released 2023 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), solidifying its position as a highly competitive urban center.
The city's remarkable rankings across various categories showcase its success and progress under Uy's leadership.
In particular, Cagayan de Oro City claimed an impressive 2nd place in the Resiliency category, highlighting its ability to withstand and recover from challenges and calamities.
Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Sheila Lumbatan earlier expressed, "This achievement reflects the city's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents even in the face of adversity."
In line with their dedication to disaster preparedness, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department will soon construct a state-of-the-art and permanent Disaster Resilience Complex within the city.
The complex, covering 1.8 hectares, will be located in Zone 8, Barangay Carmen, under the leadership of Officer-In-Charge Nick Jabagat.
Jabagat revealed that the first phase of the complex will feature the CDRRMD Operation Center, which will include facilities such as weather monitoring, a conference room, employees' quarters, and a parking bay.
Moreover, the rooftop deck will be equipped with solar panels, emphasizing the city's commitment to sustainable practices.
Last year, Mayor Uy personally led the groundbreaking ceremony for the complex.
According to Lumbatan, this initiative serves as a realization of the mayor's vision and stands as a significant accomplishment for the entire city of Cagayan de Oro.
"The Disaster Resilience Complex aims to provide a centralized and efficient hub for disaster response," said Lumbatan.
Through state-of-the-art facilities and streamlined operations, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department can enhance its efforts in safeguarding the community during challenging times.
