CAGAYAN de Oro Press Club (COPC) President Froilan Gallardo called on journalists to be more dedicated to their profession, emphasizing the importance of hard work and commitment during the club’s 74th Induction Ceremony on March 7 at Philtown.
Gallardo expressed disappointment that only about half of media members consider themselves true journalists.
“Pranka-pranka nalang gyud ni, half of you did not act,” he said, urging his colleagues to be more proactive, especially during the election season.
He cited the dedication of journalists like Menzi Montes of iFM, Sheila Mae Butlig of Gold Star Daily, and COPC Director Joel Jacobo, who covered critical stories, including the recent fighter jet crash in Bukidnon on March 5.
As he enters his second and final term as COPC president, Gallardo reaffirmed the club’s commitment to supporting journalists, including continued legal assistance for those facing libel charges through Atty. Antonio La Viña.
He concluded by reminding journalists to prioritize their safety while covering political events, adding, “Thank you” in appreciation of their efforts.
