CAGAYAN de Oro City, recognized as the recipient of the 'Presidential Award for the Most Child Friendly City', recently hosted a benchmarking activity for over 60 delegates from Tagaytay City Health Office.
"The purpose of their visit was to learn about the best practices and initiatives implemented by Cagayan de Oro City in creating a child-friendly environment," said City Mayor's Office chief of staff Shiela Lumbatan.
The visiting delegates received a warm welcome from City Mayor Klarex Uy, along with City Administrator lawyer Roy Hilario Raagas and City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Daba-Dilla, during a presentation at the City Tourism Hall.
"Cagayan de Oro City's achievement as the most child-friendly city is attributed to its commendable practices and initiatives," said Lumbatan.
Lumbatan said, the city government has invested in programs prioritizing the welfare of children, including providing quality healthcare, education, and social services.
Accordingly, the city established child-friendly facilities and spaces such as playgrounds, promoting physical activity and socialization.
In promoting child protection and welfare, Lumbatan added the city has established child protection units, conducted awareness campaigns on child rights, and prevention of child abuse.
"These efforts have not only ensured the safety of children but also empowered the community to safeguard their rights," explained by Lumbatan adding that education is also a key focus for city government now.
She said they have implemented programs to improve access to quality education, offering scholarships, school feeding programs, and enhancing school facilities.
Their aim is to equip children with the necessary skills and knowledge for success, she said.
In addition, the city has fostered collaboration between different sectors, including civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, schools, and parents, according to Lumbatan.
This collaboration has led to comprehensive programs catering to the diverse needs of children, including those with disabilities and marginalized backgrounds.
Overall, Cagayan de Oro City's recognition as the most child-friendly city reflects its commitment to creating a nurturing and supportive environment for children.
