THE Philippine Air Force has launched an investigation into the crash of an FA-50 fighter jet that went down in Mt. Kalatungan, Mirayon, Talakag, Bukidnon, on March 4.

The bodies of the two pilots were retrieved on March 5 and transported to St. Peter Memorial Chapels in Lumbia on March 6.

In an interview over Magnum Radio on March 7, AFP spokesperson Maria Consuelo Castillo confirmed that an investigation team was already at the crash site.

“Nasa crash site na ang ating investigating team at sila ay nagko-conduct na ng investigation,” Castillo said.

She assured that the PAF would conduct a thorough probe into the tragic incident.

“As soon as meron na po tayong results sa investigation doon na po tayo magkakaroon nang statement kung ano talaga ang dahilan nang pangyayari,” Castillo told reporters.

Castillo also confirmed that the retrieved remains of the pilots had undergone forensic examination and were being prepared for transport to Colonel Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, the PAF headquarters.

To honor the fallen pilots, Castillo said the PAF would hold a tribute before their remains are flown via C-130 or another appropriate aircraft.

“Ang plano po ay bibigyan sila nang honors dito. At least, one day para magkaroon nang appropriate vigil for them ang mga kasamahan nila and it will be up to the family kung saan nila iho-hold ang vigil,” she said.

As of press time, the PAF plans to transport the bodies on Saturday morning, March 8.

Meanwhile, Castillo emphasized the AFP’s ongoing efforts to centralize information dissemination regarding the incident.
