“AS an agriculturist and as a fellow farmer, I always believe in saving lots of money if you have your backyard or container gardening. It is very useful these days to have one when you get into situations like this,” said Councilor Jay R. Pascual, chair of the city council committee on agriculture.
This, as he urges the public to plant their vegetable gardens or container gardens in their respective homes.
It may be recalled that the councilor, together with his staff, has been packing and giving some seeds to some hinterland barangays to promote the importance of backyard gardening especially during this time of crisis where people are required to stay at home to avoid being contracted with and spread the dreaded coronavirus disease.
This past several weeks, Pascual and his team had been to Barangays Lumbia, Tagpangi, Pagalungan, Tuburan, Taglimao, Pigsag-an, and Tumpagon to donate and distribute survival vegetable garden seed packs, snacks, food packs, washable masks and alcohol to the frontliners.
“Di man kailangan dako ang lugar, you don’t even have to be a farmer or an agriculturist to make your garden. It’s never too late to plant now for we don’t know how long this (crisis) will last. Gardening na kita mga higala. If I can do it, so can you,” encouraged the councilor. (SP)
