THE Cagayan De Oro Press Club’s Institute of Journalism, led by Dr. Manuel Jaudian, partnered with the Germany-based Hanns Seidel Foundation to conduct a one-day workshop on mobile journalism over the weekend. The event’s main coordinator was COPC Director Annaliza Amontos Reyes.

Participants, including representatives from various city media outlets, received training from industry experts. Rodulfo Regalado, Jr., a former ABS-CBN digital news cameraman, highlighted the importance of visuals in enhancing mobile journalism through effective videography. Anthony Gomer, Jr., a computer engineer and former IT instructor, provided a tutorial on transforming media content using phone-based editing tools.

The workshop also included sessions on photo and video editing using smartphones.

Gold Star Daily Editor-in-Chief Cong Corrales shared insights on reporting with mobile devices and offered tips for credible news storytelling on social media.

The theme, “Addressing the Challenges of Mobile Journalism: A Key to Combat Disinformation,” underscored the training’s focus on fighting fake news. Dr. Jaudian emphasized the importance of this initiative in combating disinformation on social media.

COPC President Froilan Gallardo provided guidelines for taking newsworthy photos with smartphones and demonstrated various techniques. He also cautioned against sharing private images, particularly of minors and deceased individuals, in compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
