A potential site for Cagayan de Oro City Hall’s relocation site along with proposed sites for the city’s mega health centers were identified and will undergo technical evaluation, City Hall’s planning and development chief said on Wednesday.

In an interview, City Planning and Development Office chief Ramil Balquin said while they cannot disclose details for now, a potential relocation site for City Hall had been identified.

“But this site is still subject to certain technical evaluation to determine its suitability as a site for City Hall’s buildings (and equipment),” Balquin said.

The proposed relocation site for City Hall is among the priorities listed in the four-day workshop to update the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) held in one of the city’s hotels.

Other priorities also include the proposed development of the City College site in Barangay Dansolihon and the mega health centers in some of the city’s barangays, Balquin said.

“Of course Mayor (Rolando) Uy reminded us that the future City Hall site should be accessible to the public, meaning it should be easily reached by public transport and there should be adequate spaces for work and adequate parking spaces for our clients,” Balquin said.

Mayor Uy previously reiterated his administration’s commitment to pursue City Hall’s relocation.

Uy also mentioned during a recent episode of his Friday program that Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri assured him of his support for City Hall’s transfer during Zubiri’s visit to Cagayan de Oro City for the turnover of more than 50 emergency response vehicles to the city’s barangays.

Concerning the City College, Balquin said he met with the school’s appointed president to discuss the possibility of including the college faculty and students in City Hall’s research efforts on development programs for the city.

“Specifically we discussed where the City College (can participate) in our development efforts particularly in terms of programs that entail additional research,” he said. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
