THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Camiguin convened on August 19, in Mambajao to discuss the integration of the Census of Population (POPCEN) and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS). The meeting, held at the Mayor’s Office, aimed to enhance data accuracy, optimize resources, and reduce respondent fatigue.
Municipal Mayor Yñigo Jesus D. Romualdo chaired the session, which brought together 28 local board members. Senior Statistical Specialist Franklin A. Vivares provided an overview of the integrated 2024 POPCEN-CBMS, outlining its purpose, scope, and methodology.
Vivares also reported on the progress of data collection, noting that several enumeration areas had already been successfully completed as of August 17.
The integrated 2024 POPCEN-CBMS aims to update the population count and identify beneficiaries of government social protection programs focused on poverty alleviation and economic development.
The data collected will be crucial for local planning, program implementation, budgeting, and disaster risk management in Camiguin.
Francisco C. Galagar, Jr., the Chief Statistical Specialist, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the provincial government’s efforts in achieving targeted development goals. (PSA)
