PACKED lunches and P1,000 in cash awaited 700 clients scheduled to avail of services offered by Cagayan de Oro City Hall’s ‘People’s Day’ program, a record number that coincided with the celebration of Mayor Rolando Uy’s 70th birthday.

Following last Wednesday’s national holiday observance of Eid al Adha, City Hall resumed its ‘People’s Day’ program an hour after a birthday Mass was held at the City Hall quadrangle for Mayor Uy and his family that was attended by City Hall employees. Prior to the 8 am Mass, Uy and his staff also distributed food packs to patients of the city-owned JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH).

Free wheelchairs and crutches were also given to 15 persons mostly from the city’s hinterland barangays during the ‘People’s Day’ program.

In his monthly message to City Hall bureaucracy in the first flag-raising program for July, Mayor Uy confirmed that his family also resumed their tradition to allocate P1,000 worth of fuel allowance to 1,000 taxi drivers.

“As for myself, I have nothing else to wish for except good health and safety for me and my family,” the mayor said in Visayan.

If anything, Mayor Uy asked City Hall’s bureaucracy on Monday to continue to pray for his good health ‘that he may continue to serve the people of Cagayan de Oro’ well into his term.

Also on Monday morning, Uy announced that he was scheduled to meet with Senator Imee Marcos whom he said would meet with the clients being served at the ‘People’s Day’ program at the quadrangle.

Since launching the ‘People’s Day’ program in August last year, Mayor Uy’s administration had been averaging at least 300 clients every Wednesday from morning to late afternoon.

The ‘People’s Day’ clients were usually residents of Cagayan de Oro City’s urban and even hinterland barangays who mostly sought financial, educational, medical, and housing assistance from City Hall.

In launching the ‘People’s Day’ program in tandem with the ‘Klarex Nga Serbisyo Sa Baryo (KSB)’ outreach program held every Saturday, Mayor Uy emphasized his administration’s commitment to making City Hall’s services more accessible to the public, including delivering them at their doorsteps.
