THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday suspended its work to register and get the biometric records of voters on the first day of the filing of certificates of candidacy.
Lawyer Palmer Palamine, elections officer for Cagayan de Oro, said the voters’ registration would resume on Oct. 19, three days after Friday’s deadline for all those planning to seek public office next year.
Palamine said the voters’ registration would continue on Monday until Oct. 31.
The Comelec warned that citizens of voting age who would not be able to register or submit themselves for biometric data gathering would not be able to vote next year.
In the city alone, some 13 thousand voters have yet to submit themselves to the Comelec for biometrics registration. (nitz arancon)
