CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, representing the Rodriguez family, donated a brand-new ambulance, computer set, and printer to Barangay Besigan.
The ambulance was specially purchased from Japan, highlighting the family's commitment to providing top-quality resources for the community.
Barangay Besigan is one of the most remote areas in Cagayan de Oro City, located about 33 kilometers from the city center and bordering Rogongon in Lanao del Norte.
"This distance often makes it challenging for residents to access essential services, particularly healthcare," said Rodriguez.
The donation came in response to a request from the Barangay Besigan Council, led by Punong Barangay Samuel Minister.
In his address, Minister highlighted the critical need for an ambulance, stating that it could save countless lives in the barangay.
He noted that this is a significant milestone for the community, as it is the first time they will have their own ambulance.
The items were purchased using the personal funds of Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, Vice Mayor Jocelyn "Bebot" Rodriguez, and Brgy Nazareth chair lawyer Regine Rodriguez.
The Rodriguez family has a history of dedication to helping Kagay-anons and ensuring that even the most remote communities receive essential services.
Rep. Rufus, in his speech, emphasized the family's commitment to reaching out to all communities in the city.
He assured that with the support of Vice Mayor Jocelyn and Chairwoman Regine, they would continue to provide essential government services, particularly in the farthest and most challenging areas.
The donations were received by Besigan Chairman Minister, who was joined by several council members, including Brgy councilors Ryan Balansi, Jomar Minister, Crispen Tinay, Marlon Minister, Renante Baylon, Manuel Tantuhan, Metanio Minister, and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman Joey Minister.
In a ceremony filled with local traditions, the ambulance was blessed by lay ministers of the Catholic Church in Besigan.
Additionally, the Higaonon tribe of Brgy. Besigan performed a special ritual to ensure the vehicle's safety and security.
This act of generosity is not an isolated incident. Previously, Cong. Rufus, VM Bebot, and Kap. Regine have donated ambulances to several other barangays, including Dansolihon, Mambuaya, Canitoan, Puerto, and Balubal.
Their continued support underscores their unwavering dedication to the welfare of all residents in Cagayan de Oro City.
