UNIVERSITY of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) has officially opened its Night Classes Program for School Year 2023-2024. 

Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, a member of the Board of Regents of USTP, pushed for the approval of night and weekend classes to cater to working students, out-of-school youth, and underserved individuals in the city.

“The USTP Cagayan de Oro City campus is now introducing night classes to accommodate the increasing number of students who are unable to attend day classes,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez acknowledged that there are many working students, out-of-school youth, and underserved individuals in the city who wanted to finish a course. But the current class schedules conflict with their working time. 

“The importance of equal access to education, the USTP is opening its night class program for those who are interested,” he said. 

The night classes program offers four courses, including a BS in Computer Engineering, a BS in Information Technology, a BS in Technology Communication Management, and a Bachelor of Technology, Operations and Management (BTOM) for incoming 4th-year students.

The proposal, which was approved by the USTP Board of Regents, also aims to cater to underserved individuals who want to finish a course but cannot attend classes during the day due to work conflicts. 

“Successful applicants will enjoy free tuition and other school fees,” said Rodriguez adding: “Thanks to the Free Higher Education Appropriation granted by RA 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.”

Rodriguez stressed that the applications for the night classes are now open, and more details are available on his official Facebook account.

Interested applicants are required to submit scanned copies of their Certificate of Indigency/4Ps Certificate/ITR of Parents, Form 138 or Grade 12 Report Card with 1st to 3rd Quarter Grades signed by the Class Adviser, School ID, 2x2 recent ID Photo with white background, and an active email address. 

For BTOM applicants, a diploma of any three-year technical vocational course from TESDA is required.
