CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and the regional social welfare and development department (DSWD-10) worked together to distribute much-needed educational assistance to indigent college students, totaling P400,000.
The financial aid was customized for each student, ranging from P5,000 to P10,000, depending on their individual needs.
This funding was made possible through Representative Rodriguez's budget allocation within the DSWD-10.
These sixty-three student beneficiaries, hailing from various barangays in Cagayan de Oro City, rely on financial support for enrollment fees, tuition, uniforms, and other educational necessities.
Attributing their selection as recipients to their tenacity and determination, Atty. Regine Rodriguez, Chief-of-Staff of Rep. Rodriguez, explained that these students had diligently sent request letters to the congressman.
During the distribution event, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of utilizing the grant solely for educational expenses.
"Make sure that the money you receive will truly be utilized for its intended purpose – to help pay for your tuition and other school fees," said Rodriguez.
To inspire the students, he shared success stories from his former Kagay-anon scholars who are now accomplished professionals, such as engineers, doctors, and managers, studying in prestigious universities like the University of the Philippines (UP).
Furthermore, Rodriguez encouraged the students to give back to their communities and support their families once they have established themselves.
He urged them to become mentors for future generations by sponsoring their own scholars in the future, whether they be siblings, relatives, or neighbors.
Present at the event, DSWD Regional Director Ramel Jamen expressed his agency's commitment to working alongside the 2nd District Congressional Office to extend their services and assist even more deserving beneficiaries.
