COLDPLAY is coming back to Pinas in January 2024. This time, the band will be performing at the Philippine Arena. And there’s Bruno Mars who was in Manila recently. Sting also had a concert in Manila a few months ago. Since I had been there, done that with their concerts in the past, I could only wish for Pearl Jam, Duran Duran, and Annie Lennox to please come to Pinas already.
That list used to include R.E.M., Adele, and Garbage. And even Alanis Morissette but after the postponements and cancellation of her 2020 concert, no thanks to pandemic challenges, I opted not to watch her August 2023 concert. Dealing with refunds for concert and plane tickets, and canceling hotel reservations had produced a non-Alanis fan out of me. Besides, I’ve noticed that singers and bands can now easily cancel concerts. Is this a pandemic-related phenomenon?
And this seemingly pandemic-related behavior is true not only for them but also for people who I guess are artists waiting to be discovered. That is, if artists are generally moody and their friends have to tiptoe around them so as not to ruffle their feathers. So, if they’re around, better shut the f*ck up. Hush. Stare at nothing while eating ice cream. Because any nice comment from you may evoke the opposite comment from them.
For example. Yummy ice cream! Opposite comment: Hmp, I can make a much yummier ice cream than that. Yummy sizzling sinigang! Opposite comment: Hmp, that’s so easy to cook; just boil the beef, and put it on a sizzling plate. Yummy pompano! Opposite comment: Hmp, that’s so simple; steam the pompano and serve.
Nothing pleases them.
And the funny thing is, they’re the ones who decide to avoid you when it’s you who should be avoiding them. And they tend to blame you for ruining their whatever. Hmmm. Aren’t they the ones ruining their day by complaining, by focusing on negativity, by always recalling the past? A past that they invented?
The pandemic has made the optimist more optimistic, and the pessimist more pessimistic. While the optimist appreciates the effort, there’s the pessimist looking down on any kind of effort.
There will come a point in your life when you won’t care anymore. Once you’re sitting there, staring at nothing while eating ice cream, that’s the point of no return. Haha.
That’s the no-added-sugar chocolate ice cream that I’ve stopped buying for now since I still have lots of sugar-free chocolates in the fridge.
If only I could use books as desserts instead of chocolates. Such as Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” which teaches about focusing on the present moment, and that’s exactly the right mindset for savoring food so you can experience satiety.
The past is over, and the future is not here yet, but right now you’re feasting on the yummiest rib-eye steak, and that’s enough for now.
Anything that happens, good or bad, is an answer, so, accept it as it is. Acceptance is always easier once there’s no more wishing for what should be.
