MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Peter M. Unabia has called on the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) and its Technical Working Groups (TWG) to prioritize preparations for this year’s Renewable Energy and Investments Summit.

On July 8, Governor Unabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PMCJ, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), and the Institute of Power Sector Economics (IPSEc) to organize the summit.

Pat Pangantihon of PMCJ Mindanao described Governor Unabia as a renewable energy advocate who spearheaded efforts to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Lyn A. Sabellano, PMCJ’s Mindanao campaigner and provincial coordinator for climate advocate community engagement in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, highlighted the province’s potential to generate 1,214.48 megawatts from solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal sources.

During the signing, the TWG committed to consolidating and deliberating their study outputs with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to create a Renewable Energy (RE) Code, including an RE Roadmap, and Investment Plan.

Sabellano mentioned ongoing efforts to attract investors, including courtesy calls to foreign embassies and consulates.

PMCJ National Coordinator Ian C. Rivera is also actively campaigning for investors to attend the summit, which will be hosted by the Province of Misamis Oriental.
