MORE than a week after winning the Oct. 30 elections, 47 barangay captains and 47 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials can expect funding and social services for their constituents, Mayor Rolando Uy said.
After officiating their oath taking on Tuesday at the City Tourism Hall, Mayor Klarex confirmed that he will keep his administration’s promise to sustain barangay empowerment by asking the barangay and SK officials to identify which projects need to be prioritized in their barangays.
“(When you campaigned) you promised to give your best in serving your constituents. But there will be times when you will come up short and fail their expectations. Accept them as trials in life that must be overcome, as lessons to be learned in order to improve your service to them,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

Uy affirmed a previous assurance by administration ally Councilor Yan Alam Lim to the barangay and SK officials that aligned with the Uy administration. Lim was re-elected to his third term as chairman of Barangay 40 and is the incumbent president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC).
Another administration ally is incumbent Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president and Councilor John Michael Seno, who is serving his third and final term.
Mayor Uy then called on the barangay and SK officials to support Lim and SK chairman Kenneth Sacala of Barangay Carmen in their bids for the ABC and SK Federation presidencies respectively. He assured them that he will allocate funds for their projects worth P10 million per barangay as part of his administration’s commitment to barangay empowerment.
Uy said this commitment extends to barangays who didn’t vote for barangay and SK officials supported by his administration.
“We will course our support through kagawads (councilmen/women) aligned with our administration,” he said while inviting the barangay and SK officials present to visit his office during Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
Mayor Uy said his office will schedule meetings with all the barangay captains and SK officials present during Tuesday’s oath taking ceremony every three months. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
