CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy issued a stern warning to city employees who fail to perform their duties effectively.
During the recent flag-raising, he stated clearly that he is prepared to work hand in hand with anyone in the City Hall’s bureaucracy.
However, he also voiced his readiness to enforce the transfer of any staff member who does not prioritize public service.
“His main goal is to ensure that everyone in the public sector is committed to serving the local residents to the best of their abilities,” said City Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan.
Lumbatan said, Mayor Uy’s statement is an indication of his determination to improve public service delivery in the city.
“He recognizes that the city’s public servants play a critical role in implementing his administration’s policies and programs,” said Lumbatan.

By holding them accountable, she said that the mayor is sending a message that public service is a serious commitment, and those who can’t meet the required standards might need to find their place elsewhere in the bureaucracy.
In line with this, Uy is particularly proud of his administration’s ‘People’s Day’ program, which has been garnering an impressive average of nearly 500 clients every Wednesday.
This initiative, which invites citizens to interact with their local government and avail of services, is a testament to his administration's efforts to be more accessible and responsive to its constituents.
It also puts a spotlight on the need for all city departments and personnel to step up and deliver exceptional service.
Uy emphasized that every department manager and their staff members in City Hall have a crucial role to play in making the “People’s Day’ a success.
As public servants, their duty is not only to be present but also to be efficient and effective in their roles, Lumbatan clarified.
“They are expected to serve the public to the best of their capabilities, and anything less is unacceptable,” Lumbatan said.
In addition, Mayor Uy’s warning to errant employees according to Lumbatan is a clear message of his commitment to enhance public service.
“His keenness to reward hard work and penalize inadequate service is an indication of his leadership style,” she said.
Lumbatan said that with initiatives like ‘People’s Day,’ the mayor has shown his determination to bring the city government closer to the people, and he expects nothing less from those who work under his administration.
