In a recent turn of events in Cagayan de Oro, the city faced a water supply crisis when Cagayan de Oro Bulk Inc. abruptly cut off the water supply at 10 am today.
This unexpected move left many residents without access to clean water, prompting City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy to take action.
During an evening press conference that commenced at 8 p.m., Mayor Uy announced the activation of the water supply at 9 p.m. in response to questions from reporters regarding the water supply interruption.
The city government had sent a copy of the activation notice to Rio Verde earlier that evening.
Additionally, mayor uy said the city government is set to send the notification to Cagayan de Oro Bulk Inc. (COBI) tomorrow, ensuring that residents will soon have access to essential water services.
The city government according to Uy, the Regional Trial Court of Misamis Oriental Branch 17 issued a Temporary Restraining Order against Metropac Water Investments Corporation (MWC), Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc. (COBI), and Rio Verde Water Consortium Inc.
This order prohibits them from disconnecting the water supply and distribution to the petitioner Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD).
The Temporary Restraining Order will remain in effect for a period of seventy-two (72) hours from its issuance, providing temporary relief to the residents of Cagayan de Oro.
The joint order was signed by Judge Ana Casiño, emphasizing the importance of ensuring access to water as a basic necessity for the city's residents.
This legal intervention aims to address the immediate water supply concerns in Cagayan de Oro and highlights the significance of maintaining essential services for the well-being of the community.
As the city works towards resolving the water supply issues, Cowd general manager Antonio Young said that residents can expect the restoration of regular water services anytime from tonight until Thursday for the distant and lower-lying areas."
