By SHIELA MAE BUTLIG Correspondent MISS Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach would extend her visit in the country by one day in order to squeeze Cagayan de Oro in her itinerary, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District announced yesterday. As this developed, Rodriguez proposed a meeting with Mayor Oscar Moreno, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, and other local officials so they could jointly plan for Wurtzbach’s visit. He said Wurtzbach would visit the city this Jan. 29, and then leave the country the following day. Rodriguez said Wurtzbach would likely be bringing into the city over 300 international journalists, and the event would be an opportunity to promote the city. Rodriguez said he learned this from Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. head Stella Marquez Araneta who wrote him in response to his letter that requested that Cagayan de Oro be included in Wurtzbach’s itinerary given that the Miss Universe considers the city as a hometown. Wurtzbach spent her younger years in the city, and was even an elementary grader at the Corpus Christi school in Macasandig. Wurtzback was originally scheduled to fly out of the country  Jan. 29 but her visit to the city would extend her stay for one day. Rodriguez said all local officials should give Wurtzbach a warm welcome starting at the Laguindingan airport. He proposed a grand parade around the city that would end at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center. Rodriguez said he has organized a group to start cleaning the streets in preparation for Wutzbach’s homecoming. “We are ready to roll the red carpet for Pia,” said Rodriguez.
