XAVIER University-Ateneo de Cagayan karatedo team made waves in the 2nd Masanori Takahashi Memorial Karate Tournament 2025 on September 14 at the University of Visayas Gymnasium in Cebu City.
The XU karatedo team of coach Jessica Esparrago finished with a remarkable 9 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze medals in the two-day competition.
XU’s Ailyn Amparo led the gold hunt with two gold medals both in the kumite and kata advanced individual women’s division.
Amparo also lifted her team with two more gold medals in the women’s advanced team kata and kumite.
She had Jheskay Aden Esparrago and Mary Rose Factura in the team kata, while she still teamed up with Esparrago and had Keisha Marie Sailago in the team kumite.
Ivan Simm Larrazabal also finished with a pair of gold medals in the intermediate individual men’s kata and kumite.
Larrazabal also salvaged with bronze medal along Lleyton Andre Santos and Aloysius Valmores in the men’s team kata.
Santos along with Chrislene Mae Nalitan and Ned Markiel Jaudian also produced gold medal each for XU in their respective divisions.
Santos, Esparrago, Sailago, Factura and Aloysius Valmores pulled a silver medal each in the individual competitions.
Walter Troy Donasco finished with a bronze medal in the men’s advance individual kumite.
