ZAMBOANGA City conducted an exchange visit to Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday, October 19 to learn about the best practices of the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) and Oro Youth Development Office (OYDO).
The visit began with discussions at the city hall, focusing on employment facilitation programs and collaborative initiatives with Youth Works PH and Philippine Business for Education.
The group was warmly received by City Administrator Atty. Hilario Roy Raagas, who expressed gratitude to Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy for selecting their city for this benchmarking activity.
City Councilor Jose Pepe Abbu Jr., Chairman of the Committee on Labor and Employment of the 20th city council, also expressed enthusiasm for sharing best practices between the two cities.
Shiela Lumbatan, city mayor's chief of staff said the exchange visit aims to promote knowledge sharing and enhance the implementation of effective employment and youth development programs.
"By studying the successful practices of Cagayan de Oro City, Zamboanga City hopes to improve its own programs and services for the benefit of its residents," said Lumbatan.
Officials and representatives from Zamboanga City were eager to explore various aspects of the programs, including job placement assistance, skills training, and partnerships with educational institutions and businesses.
They were particularly interested in understanding how Cagayan de Oro City has achieved positive outcomes and created opportunities for its residents, especially the youth, according to Lumbatan.
"Through this exchange visit, both cities aim to strengthen their collaboration and create a platform for continuous learning and improvement," Lumbatan said.
She added that the insights gained from this visit will contribute to the further development of employment and youth-focused initiatives in Zamboanga City, ultimately leading to better opportunities and a brighter future for its residents.
