ILIGAN CITY – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate dredging and clearing of major bridges in the city affected by recent flooding, setting a June deadline for completion.
During an inspection with Mayor Frederick Siao and other local officials, Dizon assessed the condition of Tubod Bridge in Barangay Mahayahay, where floodwaters deposited heavy volumes of mud, soil, and debris, restricting water flow beneath the structure.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Dizon directed the local engineering district to begin dredging operations without delay.
He also instructed the DPWH regional office to facilitate the necessary resources, including the rental of heavy equipment if existing machinery is insufficient.
“Something has to be done immediately,” Dizon said, emphasizing the need to restore proper water flow before the next rainy season.
The Secretary ordered that dredging and clearing operations be completed by June.
Other bridges inspected
In addition to Tubod Bridge, Dizon also inspected bridges in Barangays Tipanoy and Tambacan, where siltation and debris buildup have similarly affected water passage.
The inspections come as communities continue recovery efforts following the floods. Residents, along with local government units, have initiated bayanihan activities to clear mud and debris from roads that were rendered impassable at the height of the flooding.
