IN Mambajao, Camiguin, the local government is taking notable steps to involve young people in governance.
They even discussed the progress of their youth-focused initiatives on a radio program on January 16.
Councilor Lander Cutab highlighted the need for collaboration with the National Youth Commission and other organizations to ensure the effectiveness of their youth-oriented plans.
To actively involve youth in community improvement and peace efforts, the Mambajao government has introduced the Mambajao Youth Development Code.
This ordinance is tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of the town’s younger residents.
The Youth Development Code includes processes for gathering input from young people, providing them with skills development opportunities, and establishing development councils that partner with local groups and educational institutions.
Councilor Cutab commended the young council members for their role in formulating a three-year Local Youth Development Plan (LYDP).
This plan is backed by various youth groups and serves as a fundamental component of their mission to engage young people in community enhancement.
The LYDP is regarded as more than a set of objectives; it’s a pledge among youth groups to commit to the betterment of Camiguin’s young population.
Looking to the future, Cutab is advocating for the integration of new technologies into tourism strategies and revising tourism regulations.
This modern approach is designed to match the rapidly evolving tech landscape, ensuring the sustainable growth of the region’s tourism industry.
Young individuals are encouraged to apply their social media savvy to boost Camiguin’s online tourism presence, while also promoting eco-friendly and responsible tourism practices.
The councilor pointed out the necessity of adapting to technological advancements and the digitalization of various sectors, which includes evaluating their potential contributions to the tourism industry.
Councilor Cutab suggests that these new policies will steer the community toward a youth-driven future, emphasizing the well-being and active participation of young people.
As these initiatives unfold, the youth of Mambajao are expected to take the lead in fostering a more inclusive and collaborative society. (with KAPG/PIA-10/Camiguin)
