CAGAYAN de Oro Press Club President Froilan Gallardo during the fellowship night yesterday commended the effort of Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan for being an example of a type of partnership that media should have with politicians. An open and transparent relationship.
Being a media, Gallardo emphasized its big role of being responsible for public accountability, where he considers this as being a truthful critical media.
Without mentioning, Gallardo said that there are some media practitioners here that are changing the narrative of independent press.
“Gina-away nila kung unsay storya, kapoy kay na kay kauban ra nato,” said Gallardo.
Gallardo being the press club president also said that if possible, the media should check politicians’ SALN here. This is to give life to this year’s Press Freedom Week celebration that a democratic country is best served by independent and critical media. As being transparent according to Gallardo is to uphold public accountability.
Gallardo commended Suan through its representative Congressional Director Roberto Amplayo their dedication to an open and transparent leadership where they allow the press to be involved in all their undertakings in government services is a good example of a better partnership towards public service.
Suan, for his part, said that a place like Cagayan de Oro City which is highly urbanized needs to have an independent, critical-minded media.
“Wala gyud nada ang atong katilingban kung walay tinuod nga media,” said Suan who send his video clip.
He said that he is willing to cooperate hand in hand with the media for the city deserves a well-informed and critical-minded people.
