CAGAYAN de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan yesterday (June 12) expressed his openness to forming alliances with former mayor Oscar ‘Oca’ Moreno or Bagong Cagayan advocate Jose Gabriel ‘Pompee’ La Viña.

Suan’s comments came after the city’s 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez announced his family’s alignment with Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy.

Nag usa naman gud ang mga karaan ug dagko nga pamilya (referring to the Rodriguezes and Uys). Ang mahitabo ani matabangan gyud ko ani,” said Suan.

Suan declared his willingness to join forces with any group welcomed by his party, Padayon Pilipino, including Moreno, La Viña, or even Phividec Administrator Joseph Donato Bernedo, the brother-in-law of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

He added that the Rodriguez-Uy alliance would not deter his commitment to public service.

“It doesn’t mean anything; padayon lang (gihapon) ‘ta sa atong (pagpanerbisyo),” said Suan.

Suan has introduced 400 bills in Congress, with four becoming law, including the recent “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act,” which institutionalizes the grant of teaching allowances to public school teachers.

He was also awarded the Laurel Trophy Award as Outstanding Public Servant of 2023 by the RPMD Foundation, Inc., presented by its founder, Dr. Paul Martinez, yesterday.

For his part, Moreno told Gold Star Daily that he looks forward to meeting Suan and appreciates “having issued (the) statement of openness.”

“I’d like to add that on my part, I’ve always been open, especially during the barangay elections when I supported Jun Suan, believing that he could transform Barangay Carmen. We need to restore decency, pride, and honor in Cagayan de Oro City,” Moreno said.

Moreno added that there is a need to elevate the city’s investment climate.

“We need to re-establish the efficiency of our bureaucracy,” he said.

Meanwhile, La Viña said he had not met with Padayon Pilipino or Suan but was also open to potential alliances.

Regarding the Rodriguez-Uy family ties, La Viña wished them well, expressing his ongoing preparation and determination to win the mayoral position as he did in the 2015 elections.

Gold Star Daily tried to contact Bernedo but was unreachable.
