IN April and May, I was absent from the gym for six weeks due to some circumstances. And just when I could finally go back to the gym, the building where the gym is located had no electricity. I figured, the universe was telling me that my “I shall return” should be sometime in the future.

Perhaps it wasn’t the right time to exercise again. Sa Bisaya pa, nakakita ug rason. Haha. I slept late the night before, about 2 am, so, the more there was a reason for me to stay home and sleep that morning.

In this age of Pinas’s heat indexes that could reach 46 degrees Celsius, the gym has to be air-conditioned and if it’s open 24/7, that aircon has to be on 24/7. The problem was, the building’s political power, er, electrical power, went pfft.

The rest of Cagayan de Oro had electricity. Therefore, it was not Cepalco’s problem. It was the building’s problem. And I heard the problem began at 5 am. By the time I arrived at 8 am, the mall that owns the building was still trying to solve the problem.

The gym is open 24/7 but the mall didn’t inform the gym about the problem. So, I was there, and the other Zumba warriors were there, too, waiting for the heat index to rise to 46 degrees Celsius, er, for the electricity to make a major comeback.

Had this happened when CDO had no water, no thanks to COWD and COBI, which, in case you haven’t noticed, begin with the letters C and O, the Zumba warrior would have huffed and puffed and be like the wolf in “The Three Little Pigs.” But God had other plans—He made this happen one after the other. No electricity at the gym today, no water in CDO the day after.

Lucky are the villages whose developers were advance mag-isip, they installed deep wells, water pumps, and water tanks, thus, making the villages worry-free when it comes to water. But a resident may joke about it with a fellow resident:

Resident 1: Nakapundo ka na ug tubig?
Resident 2: Oo.

Haha.

And the truth was, I did store water in a huge pail which I bought years ago when the water pump went pfft and the phase we live in had no water.

CDO’s political, er, water situation had one Cagayanon commenting that the incumbent mayor is “dali duolan, lisod pangitaon.” Approachable but cannot be found? Could that be the new smear campaign against him, care of the past mayor who supposedly signed that COWD-COBI contract?

Since the past mayor is somehow connected with that contract, let’s add one more word to this duo of words that start with the letters C and O: Covid. Which, according to so-called political analysts, er, conspiracy theorists, contributed to his electoral loss in some province. So, COWD, COBI, and Covid. Will this trio now be the cause for his loss in CDO in Election 2025? Abangan.
