ILIGAN City ― The city peace and order situation here is still okay. This is in spite of a shooting incident involving a police investigator a few days ago.
This was the statement yesterday of Police Maj. Zandrex Panolong, Philippine National Police spokesperson here.
Earlier, it was learned that the police investigator who was shot by unidentified gunmen was riding on a motor vehicle at Purok Violeta, Barangay Sta. Elena Tuesday afternoon at past 2:00 pm when he was flagged by two men riding in tandem and immediately, one man shot him in the abdomen.
The victim, identified as Master Sgt. Ruel C Vacal, 42 and assigned at police station 4 at Barangay Tubod this city. He was then taken to Mercy Hospital where he expired hours later.
Some angles being considered, Panolong, said is that this might be in connection with some cases filed against some persons in the course of his investigations.
In another development, Mayor-elect Frederick Siao, yesterday, said that he is inviting the winners in last month’s elections to join the inauguration and oath-taking on June 30 even if they are not on his ticket.
To note, three candidates for councilor under the ticket of outgoing Mayor Celso Regencia won. They are Jake Balanay, Nhicole Capangpangan, and Randy Ong. Regencia won as congressman over Vicente Belmonte, Jr, a former congressman who ran with Siao.
Siao said that with this gesture, reconciliation could begin.
The four, though ― Regencia, Balanay, Ong, and Capangpangan have already taken their oaths at the mayor’s office early this week administered by a judge here.
