MORE than a million worth of illegal drugs and a high caliber pistol were seized by operatives assigned at Cagayan de Oro City Police Office during a buy-bust operation in one of the populated barangays here last Friday.

Deputy City Director for Operations Philip Pontillas, identified the suspect as Richard Chung, 43, residing at Zone 3A, Riverside, Barangay Gusa, this city.

Chung yielded a total of 195 grams of suspected shabu with a street value at P1,317,000, and a 45 caliber Pistol with one magazine loaded with seven live ammunition.

Prior to the arrest, Pontillas said, a team from Nazareth police station headed by Police Major Allan Cairel conducted a buy and bust operation at the said place at about 8:30 pm. It was learned that Chung has just been released from Lumbia City Hail.

It was Chung who handed down a purchased illegal drug to a poseur buyer.

Sensing that he transacted with a person in authority, he attempted to escape but it was too late as he was already surrounded by Cairel’s men.

In a body search police were able to find in the suspect's possession a gun, 16 big sachets, eight medium sachets, two small sachets all containing suspected shabu, and a P500 bill used as buy-bust money.

Chung denied he owned all the confiscated drugs saying, some were “planted” by the arresting policemen.

Cairel told reporters before the arrest his men had already conducted thorough surveillance to make sure that the subject (Chung) was really into the said nefarious activity.

“Actually, we don’t expect nga in ani kadaku ang makuha sa among tawo. As of now maghimo pa mig dugang imbistigasyon sa suspek para mahibaw-an namo asa ang source ani,” Pontillas said.

The suspect is now temporarily detained at Nazareth police headquarter awaiting the proper filing of charges in court.
