HEALTH officials are still observing four people in northern Mindanao who have shown symptoms of novel coronavirus infection, the chairperson of the local Task Force Novel Coronavirus disclosed yesterday.

The task force chairperson, city health officer Lorraine Nery, cited a Department of Health (DOH) report that five people were placed under observation. But Nery said one of the five has been cleared and discharged from a hospital, based on the DOH report on Monday afternoon.

Dr. Nery declined to identify the hospitals in Region 10 where the patients are being observed. She said some are in Cagayan de Oro while others are in other areas in Northern Mindanao.

The chief of the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), Dr. Jose Chan, gave different figures. He said three people were under observation in the region -- two in Cagayan de Oro and another one patient in Camiguin.

But according to the DOH as of 1 pm yesterday, the patient under observation in Camiguin already tested negative.

The task force and the City Health Office have mobilized barangay health workers and tasked them to take note of people who have been abroad recently.

“Dili lang kadtong gikan sa China. Basta gikan sila sa abroad sukad niadtong Jan. 17,” Nery said. (with a report from Froilan Gallardo)
