THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-10) has announced plans for the construction of three iconic bridges and elevated walkways to address traffic issues in Cagayan de Oro.

During the Kapihan nang Bagong Pilipinas yesterday, hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-10 at the DPWH Regional Office, Regional Director Zenaida Tan unveiled the plans.

The proposed bridges include the Macasandig-Macanhan-Manresa Bridge, connecting Macasandig to Sitio Macanhan; the Kalambaguhan-Vamenta Bridge, linking Barangay 12 to Vamenta Street in Carmen; and the Consolacion-Kauswagan Bridge, which will connect Kauswagan to Lapasan.

Tan credited 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez for his advocacy in securing funding for these projects.

“He is very eager for these projects to be funded and realized,” said Tan.

Additionally, Tan mentioned Rodriguez’ push for an elevated walkway to connect major establishments in the city.

“The streets are busy, so we will route people above to make it easier for them to get to churches and malls,” Tan pointed out.

These projects are slated for the fiscal year 2024 budget allocation. In the previous fiscal year, DPWH-10 completed 1,127 projects across Northern Mindana and parts of Lanao del Sur under the Government Allocations Act 2023, with a budget of approximately P61.4 billion.

As the rainy season approaches, Tan assured that the DPWH-10 is prepared for potential flooding. District engineering offices are ready for de-clogging operations, with equipment on standby.
