OROQUIETA City has suspended the entry of residents returning from other parts of the country for 29 days, starting January 3 until January 31, said in a press statement Wednesday.
The 29-day moratorium for the entry of LSIs who are returning home will help prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city and avoid overcrowding individuals, it said.
Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Acosta requested the Regional Inter Agency Task Force (RIATF) to suspend the transport or entry of LSIs to prevent the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city and prepare its quarantine facilities for more arrivals.
“Muhangyo lang ko sa tanan na sabton sa na wala sa ta'y ipasulod nga LSIs sa tibuok bulan January para marefocus tanan ang resources sa siyudad para makontrolar nato ang COVID cases sa siyudad,” he said.
On January 3, Acosta called for an emergency meeting of the Local Inter-Agency Task Force to determine the status of the COVID-19 cases in the city.
During the course of the meeting as reported last January 2, Oroquieta City had a total of 65 active cases with new cases caused by local transmission.
Considering that the quarantine facilities of the province are already almost at its maximum capacity, it was unanimously decided that the most prudent action was to suspend acceptance of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) until January 31.
The members of the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force unanimously agreed to request to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Infectious Disease Region 10 to suspend the transportation of LSIs to Oroquieta City. (Recthie Tolinero/SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
