CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the continuation of the Macabalan-Bonbon Bridge construction.
A new budget allocation of P295 million has been approved for the fiscal year 2024 to further this important infrastructure project.
The Macabalan-Bonbon Bridge is a key part of the Cagayan de Oro New Western Diversion Road.
This road aims to provide an alternate route within the city, making travel easier and more efficient for the public.
The bridge itself will stretch a total of 1,188.80 meters and feature two-lane carriageways, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
In addition to the bridge, the project includes funding for access roads.
These roads are crucial for connecting the bridge to the surrounding areas and ensuring that the new route is fully functional and accessible.
Since fiscal year 2021, Rep. Rodriguez has been instrumental in securing funds for this project.
So far, he has obtained a total of P1.8 billion, which has significantly contributed to the progress of the Macabalan-Bonbon Bridge.
The groundbreaking ceremony was a significant event, attended by various officials who have played a role in the project's development.
Among them were officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 10, including Construction Division Chief Engr. Jesse Peliño.
Local officials from Barangay Macabalan also participated in the ceremony.
Barangay chairman Saniel Raypon, Kagawad Estrella Lumba, Kagawad Nestor Gonzaga, and SK Chairperson Philip John Rodriguez were all present, underscoring the community’s support and involvement in the project.
Rodriguez expressed his gratitude to everyone involved. He highlighted the importance of the bridge in improving the city's infrastructure and reiterated his commitment to seeing the project through to completion.
The Macabalan-Bonbon Bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Cagayan de Oro. It will provide a vital link for residents and improve the overall transportation network within the city.
The additional funding brings the project closer to completion, promising a brighter future for local commuters.
With construction now set to continue, the community looks forward to the completion of the Macabalan-Bonbon Bridge.
