A POLICE officer was killed when the motorcycle he was driving crashed head-on to an incoming cargo truck along the coastal road in Barangay Gusa this afternoon.

The victim was identified as Police Corporal Armando Fernandez, 32, a resident of Purok 5 of the said barangay.

According to witnesses in the area, Fernandez was at a minimum speed when he overtook another vehicle and occupied the opposite lane before bumping against the incoming car.

The incident took place at about 12:30 pm.

At the scene, it was noticed that Fernandez was already motionless and there was no sign of life anymore.

His head was smashed due to the impact. While his motorcycle was also in total wreck.

The winged cargo van with plate number CAM-7104 was loaded with mineral water and was heading to the west side area of the city when the tragedy happened.

The driver is now being detained at police station 3 in Agora for further investigation.

Police said Fernandez was assigned at a checkpoint at Bulua highway and he was returning home when the incident occurred. He was in civilian attire in blue short pants and a red t-shirt.

People living near the area where the accident happened said the place which is near Gusa Elementary school is an accident-prone area.

Just last week a motorcycle driver received contusions and bruises in the different parts of his body when his driven unit had slid and crashed to the ground due to a muddy road.
