It’s as if nothing happened and the entire city conspired in silence in Marawi––no witness has come forward, and there was no complaint about the reported gangape and killing of a teenager and the subsequent reports about the executions of four young men linked to the murder. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) yesterday said it had to conclude that reports about what took place in Marawi city over a week ago were all “speculations.” CIDG regional director Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum said even the reports about the Aug. 14 gangape of a 15-year old teenager in Marawi were “speculations.” Tagum said the only thing that was not a speculation was that the teenager was burned. “Kadtong report nga gisunog ang 15 years old nga dalagita tino-od to, pero walay may report kon giape ba kay wala may witness, walay complaint ang family sa maong babayi,” he said. Tagum said investigators could not proceed with their work because there was no report from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco). This is so because by tradition, Muslims bury their dead immediately, and the Soco failed to examine the body. Neither was there a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Tagum said. “There was nothing to investigate,” Tagum said. (nitz arancon)
