By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent PUBLIC transport groups here protested yesterday’s big fuel-price increase, saying this could either force them to file petitions to pressure the government to act or grant them fare increases. Bernie Jamaca, president of the Cagayan de Oro  First Taxi Drivers’ Alliance (Cafitada),  said they would bring their protest before the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), and petition it into doing something in order to roll back fuel prices. Jamaca said the average P1.42-liter increase in fuel prices was sudden, and highlighted how oil companies have been taking advantage of the Oil Industry Deregulation Law. He called the series of recent fuel-price reductions as “pa-pogi points.” Unless rolled back, Jamaca said, the increased fuel prices would force Cafitada to file a petition for a taxi fare-increase before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). Joel Gabatan, president of the National Confederation of Transport Unions (NCTU), called yesterday’s increase in fuel prices as “injustice.” He said his group would meet on Saturday so they could agree on a plan of action. “Kon gikinahanglan nga mag-petition kami sa LTFRB, amo nang buhaton. Pero among sang mitingan kay apiktado man sab ang riding public kon magpa-increase kami sa pamasahe,” Gabatan said.
