Authorities said the male infant found in a trash bin inside the restroom of a Petron gas station in Zayas, Carmen at around 9 pm.

A towel was used to cover the baby.

Allien Tumanda, a gas station worker, said the baby was believed to have been abandoned by the mother, a student, right after she gave birth inside the toilet.

The suspect, he said, was a passenger of a jeepney plying the Pagatpat route that stopped at the gas station. He said the young woman disembarked and then proceeded to the restroom.

The baby was found after a customer subsequently used the toilet and then called their attention because there were bloodstains on the floor.

Tumanda said the suspected mother was a college student based on the uniform she wore. He declined to identify the school.

“Pagsulod adtong ika duhang babayi, iyang nakita nga dunay dugo sa salog sa CR nga nagkalat-kalat. Mao tong mi-report siya sa amo-a nganong na-ay dugo sa salod sa maong CR,” he said.

Tumanda said the gas station’s workers and the manager of a motorcycle repair shop nearby were the ones who found the baby dumped in the trash bin when tried to figure out why there were bloodstains.

The newborn baby was then rushed to the hospital for medical care. The baby would be handed over to local social workers.
