CAGAYAN de Oro’s long-time badminton duo Jason Uy and Warren Thomas Treseño made a successful comeback after ruling the FDG Cup elite doubles division on June 23, 2024, in Pasig City.

This is the third title for Uy and Treseño after defeating Clarence Filart and Jubie Ann Vallarta in two straight sets in the final.

The Kagay-anons took the first set with a 21-15 win, but they escaped a thriller with a 21-19 victory in the second set.

They also beat Jourele Antonio and Christopher Conde in the semifinal, 21-16, 21-17.

Uy and Treseño may have topped the elimination round with a 5-1 win-loss record but experienced a bit of turbulence when they lost to the tandem of Marlon Cruz and Ana Palenzuela in round 3.

“Cruz and Palenzuela were somehow a threat to them but they got knocked in contention in the elimination round,” said Michael Valerio, coach of Uy and Treseño.

Uy and Treseño won their first two titles in the 2018 and 2019 episodes, but their grand slam title run was shattered by the pesky Covid-19 pandemic. They could have completed it when the FDG Cup returned last year but waived to join in favor of important business to attend to.

This was the 18th staging of the FDG Cup and was considered an annual and prestigious badminton tournament in the country.
