CUSTOMS officials held 68 thousand sacks of rice from Vietnam on suspicion that these were misdeclared but authorities said yesterday that everything turned out to be in order.

District collector Ruby Claudia Alameda said the sacks of Vietnam rice were held based on an Oct. 2 alert order she issued against the importer Soda Enterprises, a firm owned by Corazon Barnuevo of Padilla St., Pala-o, Iligan City.

The alert order was issued in response to a report from the intelligence group of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Manila that the shipment of MV Truong Minh Victory from Vietnam was suspected to be undervalued.

Alameda however told a news conference yesterday that Soda Enterprises was found to have complied with the laws, and paid all customs duties amounting to P33.115 million.
