THE inaugural Team Gahi three-man Team Club Race race last Saturday, February 17, marked a thrilling chapter for local cyclists in Cagayan de Oro City.
With the gun-start at Alegria Hills, the race ended at the picturesque backdrop of River Valley Ranch Bike Park in Libona, Bukidnon, the event brought together cyclists from all walks of life, united by their passion for the sport and the spirit of camaraderie.
The race format was unique, with 13 teams randomly picking three riders each, strategically maneuvering through a challenging course that tested their endurance, skill, and teamwork.
From sharp inclines to winding descents, every twist and turn demanded precision, coordination, and boosting for the weakest rider of the team. The atmosphere was electric, pulsating with excitement and anticipation.
As the race unfolded, it became evident that victory would not come easy. Each team pushed themselves to the limit, pushing through fatigue and pushing the boundaries of their abilities. It was a test of mental fortitude as much as physical prowess.
Team Gahi president Jason Chu expressed gratitude for the participating riders.
“I would like to thank all members and friends who supported our first Team Gahi 3-Man Team Club Race for the year 2024. It was a success,” Chu told Gold Star Daily.
In the end, J Team (Antoy Udasco, Wyewye Albarece, and Jerry Edloy) emerged triumphant, crossing the checkered flag with a display of sheer determination and teamwork. the G Team (James Pe, Benz Lester Molina, and Chikoy Vallejos) placed second, while the F Team (Dennis Aquino, Arman Padilla, and Beng Moner) came in third.
A special award and prize money were given to Patrick Olliveau, Marnes Villalba, and Boni Espinelli as the Best Team in the race. Their victory was a testament to the power of collaboration and unity in the face of adversity.
Another special award was given to 72-year-old Rudy ‘Chairman’ Galceran for being the most senior of all the rider-competitors. Galceran even finished the race without getting any boost from his team mates.
The first Team Gahi three-man Team Club Race was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of the human spirit and the bonds forged through shared experiences.
As cyclists and spectators alike reflected on the day’s events, they were left with memories that would last a lifetime and a renewed appreciation for the beauty and challenge of the sport.
“We are looking forward to the next event this coming August for our 8th anniversary,” Chu said.
