MAYORAL aspirant and Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez expressed his disappointment over the Cagayan Electric Power and Lights Company Inc. (Cepalco) constant implementation of blackouts.

Rodriguez says he cannot accept Cepalco’s Vice President and head of Community Customers Relations Marilyn Chavez reasons for the 12-hour blackouts in major parts of the city and Misamis Oriental over the weekend.

Ceplaco’s implementation of the said blackouts is attributed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) road widening forcing Cepalco to transfer its electric post in Barangay Bugo-Casinglot Alae bridge.

Dili ko makato-o ni-ana, dali ra man ang pag-ayo ug pagbalhin ana, nganong mo-abot man ug 12 hours, I believe that there is another reason,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez also lashed out at the reasons for the nine-hour blackout in Moresco 1 on Monday given by Elizabeth Ladaga, spokersperson of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, which was due to the maintenance of a 69KV line in Lugait, this city.

He pointed out they should not be doing any maintenance especially that the national election is just around the corner.

This, after Rodriguez’s campaign with over 50 pastors of the Born Again Christian during a meeting inside Jesus Christ the Healer church in Sitio Macanhan of this city where he was invited by Pastor Jose Roy Rodriguez founder of the Jesus Christ Healing Ministry.

During the meeting Rodriguez urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to find a “comprehensive study” to find a solution on how to sufficiently supply Mindanao’s power needs.

He also pointed out that the NGCP should start making plans on preventing power interruptions.

Kinahanglan magplano na sila, kon asa sila mokuhag enerhiya, aron wala na gayoy brown out dinhi sa Mindanao” matud ni Rodriguez.

Rodriguez then said that if he will be elected as Mayor in May 9 he will implement the “Solar Power Program” of City Hall.

Kadtong mga business establishment nga nag-install sa ilang solar power for their own consumption, I will give them incentives to pay their taxes, ug kadtong kuyente nga ilang gamiton, ma-o nay i-distribture sa mga household, aron wala na gyoy brownout,” Rodriguez added.

Meanwhile, entrepreneurs of this city also expressed their dismay over the 12-hour blackout.

According to Efren Uy, former President of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber, the blackouts that Cepalco is implementing is directly affecting the businessmen in the city.

“Additional operating expenses sa mga businessmen nga dunay mga genset. Kadtong walay mga generator, menos ug halos walay halin. Ang nagbaligya sa frozen and refrigerated products na-alkansi sa ilang pohonan kay nangada-ot man ang ilang mga produkto,” Uy said.
