THE 18th city council would hold its inaugural session at 3 pm today, and tackle its first resolutions and rules of procedure that would govern the conduct of business of the city’s legislature.
Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy said the city council is also expected to name its presiding officer protempore, majority floor leader, assistant majority floor leader, minority floor leader, assistant minority floor leader and chairpersons, vice chairpersons and members of the different standing committees.
The standing committees are agriculture and fisheries, barangay affairs, blue ribbon, economic enterprises, education, energy, environment and natural resources;
Finance and ways and means, games and amusement, health and sanitation, labor and employment, laws and rules; police, fire and public safety;
Public utilities, public works, senior citizens, social services, sports, subdivision and landed estate, tourism;
Trade, commerce and cooperatives, urban and rural poor, women and family relations, cultural communities, and barangay boundary disputes.
The new city council is also expected to authorize Uy as the official signatory for all the bank transactions of the city council.
Uy said he is ready to perform his duties and functions as the head of the new city council.
He said he expects that the city council would be “active” and “more dynamic” as it works “for the people… hand in hand with the people.”
While he is prepared, Uy said his election as vice mayor of the city has yet to sink in.
“Hangtud karon dili ko katuo,” he said. “To those who believed in me and to those na wala nagtuo ug sa kadtong nibutar kanako ug sa kadto pong wala nibutar kanako, I will take it as a challenge and inspiration.”
